China Releases Plan to Incorporate Farmers Into Cities – NYT

The plan calls for integrating 100 million of these second-class citizens, so that by 2020, 60 percent of Chinese should be living in cities, with 45 percent enjoying full urban status, the plan states. To make this possible, the government is promising huge infrastructure spending. Every city that exceeds 200,000 in population is to be linked by rail and expressways, while every city exceeding 500,000 is to have high-speed rail service.

China Home-Price Growth Slows in Big Cities on Tight Credit – Bloomberg

The government will curb demand for housing among investors and regulate the home market “differently in different cities,” Premier Li Keqiang said last week. It has also been reining in lending that lend to excessive borrowing and now is sparking defaults. A closely held Chinese real estate developer with 3.5 billion yuan ($566 million) of debt has collapsed and its largest shareholder was detained, government officials familiar with the matter said yesterday.

The Malaysian ambassador should be presenting himself here. But he’s not. Relatives are very unsatisfied. So you hear them saying ‘hunger strike’,” he told Agence France-Presse.
