China Economic Growth Is Slowest in Decades – WSJ

Den kinesiska BNP-tillväxten sjönk till 7,4 procent under 2014, ned från 7,7 procent året innan. Myndigheterna räknar det som att landet har nått det officiella, ”flexibla” tillväxtmålet på 7,5 procent. China’s economy grew 7.3% in the fourth quarter from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said, buttressed by targeted moves to ease borrowing. But it continued to face a housing glut, soaring debt and overcapacity in many industries, factors likely to erode growth in 2015. Beijing had said it expected “about” 7.5% growth in 2014. The chief of the statistics bureau said Tuesday the rate was within that range.

The gauge plunged 7.7 percent on Monday after the China Securities Regulatory Commission suspended three brokerages from loaning money to new equity-trading clients and said brokers shouldn’t lend to investors with assets below 500,000 yuan ($80,380).

Microsoft Says Outlook Hacked in China – WSJ

Microsoft bekräftar uppgifter om att företagets mailtjänst Outlook har attackerats av hackers i Kina. “We are aware of a small number of customers impacted by malicious routing to a server impersonating Outlook.com,” a Microsoft spokesman in a statement Tuesday. “If a customer sees a certificate warning, they should contact their service provider for assistance.”

Xi asks Party to support independent judiciary – Xinhua

Xi Jinping uppmanar partiet att verka för ett fristående rättsväsende. Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks in a written instruction on political and legal work. The central conference on political and legal work was convened in Beijing Tuesday. Party committees at all levels should set an example of abiding by the law, he wrote. They should enable law enforcement agencies and judicial departments to work independently according to the Constitution and laws and ”create a favorable environment” for them to do so, he wrote.
